WHAT ARE IAVCEI COMMISSIONS AND WHAT DO THEY DO?

Commissions are the "engines" of IAVCEI; they are where the actual project work is done.
Commissions are groups of individuals who work together towards common goals in support of science.
Each commission chooses its own leaders and operating style.

Some examples of commission activities are:

1) conduct workshops and symposia (see any recent General Assembly program)

2) conduct short courses or provide training (e.g Satellite Remote Sensing)

3) produce publications focused on commission topics (e.g. WOVO Directory)

4) provide forums for communication:
a) web sites
b) newsletters
c) email discussion groups

5) develop databases (e.g. large (>10 km3) explosive eruptions in Holocene)

6) determine and set measurement standards or data formats

Feel free to contact the leaders of commissions that represent your interests and find out how you can become more involved.
